Ginkgo is involved in the glutamatergic system, which plays a pivotal role in memory. It acts on CREB (a transcription protein present in all cells), which enhances neuron regeneration, survival and rehabilitation. CREB increases the synthesis of many neuroprotective proteins, such as Bcl-2 and BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). BDNF promotes the growth and differentiation of new neurons and synapses involved in long-term memory. <\/p>\n
It also stimulates and controls neurogenesis (ZHANG & al, 2011)<\/span>.
