It is a symptom, not an illness, which means it can have any number of causes, including ingesting stones, bones or other foreign bodies, prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate), perineal hernia, an anal gland abscess, pelvic fractures and megacolon.<\/p>\n<p>Certain medications can also cause constipation. Some breeds, primarily bulldogs, Boston terriers and Manx cats, may be more susceptible than others.
